::: baby ‘chino anyone?

Last week we posted on the sorting boxes we are now making and selling using old drawers, recycled timber and an assortment of natural and found objects.

Unlike some people we girls thrive on change. In fact we seem to reinvent ourselves every twelve months or so, so no-one should be too surprised that we are traveling down a new path at this time of the year. We have been having fun heading out ‘picking’ and gathering up our eclectic mix of ‘finds’ to upcyle into fun imaginative play resources for children. It is so much fun and it means we get to work together more often, something we haven’t done too much of this past year AND we are having the time of our lives out the back in our Irresistible courtyard churning out our wares!

To be cranking up our power tools and doing some solid hard work with our hands instead of with our mouths for a change is something we are enjoying immensely!

Upcycled drawers are our furniture of choice and apart from creating the sorting boxes we are also designing and building these really irresistible children’s cafe bars.  They are a terrific addition to any home corner play space inside or out, as well as being a lovely addition to anyones kitchen. Sherry’s grandchildren LOVE their ‘Children’s Cafe’ set up and always look forward to sitting down with a baby ‘chino and a snack when they drop into visit at morning tea time.

Made from old drawers and recycled timber, and accompanied by Op’ shop finds, each set up is unique. Some times we might find a couple of drawers the same while sometimes we find an entire chest of 6 or 8 drawers which we reinvent but we never create the shelving inserts to look the same (THAT would be way to boring). We just never know from day to day what we’ll come across.

While we lovingly clean, sand, repair, cut, measure, glue and screw the units into shape, we are very careful not to remove the entire history of the drawers. We always make sure to leave it’s ‘heart ‘n’ soul’ in place.

We LOVE that the timber we use comes from places like Resource Rescue or is cut down from old pieces of furniture. Don’t be surprised to see old nail and screw holes in the timber we use. We don’t fill them in as we feel this is part of the units appeal …  what we like to call “perfectly-imperfect”!
