::: metamorphosis
Over at Ringwood Uniting Preschool, they appear to be studying metamorphosis at the moment, if looking at their imaginative play sets is anything to go by.
First we noticed their frog set up. We love the open book being incorporated into the learning.
Then we saw their gorgeous Hungry Caterpillar corner. Elizabeth is just so good at putting together these beautiful set ups.
It is hard to believe that we are in a playroom in the middle of the suburbs…
because it feels as if we have been transported …
into a rain forest!

At Jack’s Reggio playgroup they always have open books on the activity table. At first I thought the kids didn’t really notice it and it just looked fancy
But then Jack started making observational drawings and sculptures from things he had seen in the book. Also it’s a great source of information since all of the activities are carefully thought out and sometimes I just don’t know anything about Arctic animals
Love Reggio!!
::: … AND Kate it teaches our children where adults get their information from too. Sometimes I think children think adults are a bit like that imaginary money tree growing in the back yard, you know … The one they get their money from whenever they need some … If children aren’t taught that we too need to obtain information from books and the like, they will naturally think that this knowledge has just always been with us. Adding open books to the learning environment reinforces to the children that we had to learn these things too.
Hey yeah, good point, learning where information comes from. Hadn’t thought of that. Im going to mention it at playgroup and they are going to think I am oh so clever
::: MOST important for our boys too Kate … ANYTHING to get them interested in reading!
hi there, can you please ask where they get their lovely pictorial backdrops from? They add so much to the experience. Thanks!
::: We’ll see what we can find out Louise!

Could the backdrops be from a pet shop for fish?
::: That’s a great idea Bronwyn. Those fish tank backdrops are terrific.
