::: tape and paint
The Easter holidays are nearly at an end and we are all starting to get our heads around going back to work and having fun with our excited children who are all refreshed and raring to go. It is a good time to at least slightly rearrange our rooms, bring out new stuff, head in a different direction maybe, try some new activities that the children will love.
Having a trawl through one of our favourite sites, Happy Hooligans, we found this simple but beautiful stained glass painting idea and thought we’d give it a go as we hadn’t tried it with our own children and thought they would enjoy it. Thanks Jackie, you have some great, simple ideas that are perfect for littlies!
We found some firm white card, scissors and tape.
As always everyone has their own spin on an activity, so we did some strips of tape as above, but then added smaller pieces in squares, triangles, rectangles and zigzags.
We chose some paint colours …
then started to paint – neatly at first …
then just whatever we felt like as that is so much fun!
The hard bit was waiting for it to dry …
but not for too long as we didn’t want the tape to get stuck in the paint. It is a bit of fine balancing act.
We loved the results. Now to try it on the kinder children next week!

You know I love paint and I love tape. We’ve done versions of this with mixed results. (Our tape always seems to tear our paper. I need to experiment more with the paper choice.)
But we always did just straight pieces of tape. I love the different shapes. Such a cool idea!
::: I think heavier card is certainly the way to go Scotty if you get your hands on some.

Cheap masking tape works best. I did a similar thing with my FDC kids, using a cut out of a person taped onto the paper, so the end product is 1 painting with a person shaped void and also 1 colorful person. This worked with even my 12 month old child, and the results were beautiful!
::: Thanks Sarah … I’m thinking even contact (book covering) would work well too!

Hey, yours look great!! Love how you put your own spin on it and I love the vibrant colours you’ve used!
::: Thanks Jackie … And thanks for the inspiration!

We have used painters tape. Its usually green and you find it in the hardware store (in Canada anyway). The tape comes off most paper and cardboard.
::: Thanks Lorna we will certainly try it!

Try using Painter’s Tape – you can get it in hardware stores. It is designed to NOT stick very hard.
::: Thanks for the tip Muriel!

Love this idea!!! I wonder if using the blue masking tape that is removable would work?
::: That sound’s like a good idea Pam.

ooooo…very groovey
Straight clean edges are a thing of wonder in preschool
::: That’s so true Bianca! Speaking of groovey … we think me might try it with mud next!
Just perfect for my tape mad FDC children. Thanks.
::: Have fun Val!

I just wanted to share that if you take the masking tape and tape it to your pants first, it loses just enough “stick” to come off the artwork easily.
::: Thanks for the tip Jennifer!
