::: Hospital play
We love this inviting dramatic hospital play space set up for the children at Stockdale Road primary School.

The bed is simply a table covered by a thin mattress, blankets and pillow. We really love the flimsy fabric curtain and the real props scattered around the space.

Clipboards to encourage writing, chairs for waiting ‘patients’ and dress ups all add to the learning opportunities for the children. Providing plenty of ways for them to act out familiar or imagined hospital experiences!

This is SUCH a respectful, purposeful and well thought out play space.

Now where oh where can I get my hands on a skeleton!
::: It’s a ripper isn’t it Jen!

I just love this idea, the skeletons, seats for waiting patients and the eye chart on the pin-up board! I will have to keep this in mind for our next imaginative play space, thank you for the inspiration…love it!!
::: It really is an irresistible play space isn’t it Janice!

Loved the patients detail format
::: Thanks Mansi.

What a wonderful set-up! I can see my girls spending all day playing here!
::: It sure does look like fun Terri!

It’s so wonderful to see so many primary schools realising how important play is in the early years for learning. Without oral language play activities it’s very hard for children to progress to independent reading and writing. I just wish my own children’s school could implement some play based activies in their program like the one above. Just beautiful, they’d love it!
::: Shauna we agree that it is fantastic to see these programs coming back into Primary Schools. The more we are able to spread the word about the benefits of children learning through play the greater the benefit for our children. Perhaps you could refer your principle to the blog … It’s certainly a start!

This play space, as you say is beautiful. I love the fact that it is so authentic – even the blanket on the bed resembles a hospital bed spread. By making the effort to provide such authentic experiences, children would most certainly be involved in authentic learning. Top job Stockdale Primary!
Thank you for sharing
::: Yeah, we’re pretty impressed with what’s going on at Stockdale Primary too, Bianca.
