::: glow stick delight

One of our homemade musical instruments was filling bottles to different depths with coloured water and then striking them to make a xylophone type of sound. When we saw the idea of using glow sticks to add interest to the bottles we thought we’d give that a go too.

Same great sound …

 just a different, fun angle.

We didn’t want to waste the glow sticks so put them to another use – to jazz up some very ordinary balloons for our littlest friend.

and as some funky jewelry for the big fella.

It was interesting trying to blow up the balloons and get the glowsticks in as well!!

The children took them into a darkened room and just loved the slightly spooky experience.

Even with the balloons deflated (as they did overnight), the glow sticks still looked really fascinating!

    Another great idea for those glow sticks is a glow bath. Drop a bunch in the bathwater and turn out the bathroom lights. Kids LOVE it. Also, if at the end of the bath you collect the glow sticks and put them in a baggie and stash them in the freezer you can extend their life. I’ve had some last a week or more. Pull them out and let the water warm them up and they start to glow again.
    I do this with my son all the time and when we visited my sister I gave all 3 boys a bath with about 6 dozen glow sticks from the dollar section of Target. They had a blast.

    ::: What a great idea Kara… Especially enticing for those little (or not so little) ones who refuse to get in the tub!! :) :)

    Fantastic idea! I’ll putting some in balloons for the days we are stuck inside and the kids are going through the roof!

    ::: Sounds like a good plan Tracy. :) :)
