::: engaging spaces for toddlers

We are having a ball visiting lots of lovely centres and bringing them to you virtually!

We often have requests for more information on catering for toddlers and babies. As our background is in kindergarten,  we can’t provide that information unless we are invited to come to centres that cater for this age group. If you have babies and toddlers in your care and run a play based program with them, please get in touch with us so we can share your ideas with everyone else!

We recently visited The Avenue, a child care and kindergarten in Melbourne who do cater for this age group and here is what we saw and experienced.

Lots of cosy corners.

All the perfect size …

 for little people!

Not only were these cosy areas created inside …

but the outside environment was treated …

with just as much importance and respect.

The children were having a ball with music and dancing …

as well as …

lots and lots of fun …

with bubbles.

We really loved their use of drapes.

Especially the way they used them inside …

and out, to create enticing sensory entrances to their small play spaces.

And the use of mirrors all around the place …

 was simply beautiful.

The Avenue is such a lovely inviting and engaging environment for the children here.

Everywhere we looked the children were so happy.

The Avenue Children’s Centre and Kindergarten is part of our Education Directory

If you are a childcare centre of Family Day Carer working with babies and Toddlers, who would like to become a part of our Education Directory please email us at fun@playbasedlearning.com.au

  1. I love, love, love their outdoor space! I work with 1-3 year olds and have lots of pictures on my blog. I even have a couple posts just about the environment itself and how we’ve had to change it around already (we are still getting used to the one year olds!). We are still waiting for some things to be installed so I post pictures as I get updates. Feel free to share!

    ::: Thanks Shelley sounds great! 🙂 🙂

  2. Maria says:

This is beautiful, you have found some amazing spaces for children!

::: Thanks Maria … We love discovering them as much as you guys do! 🙂 🙂

  3. You know how much I enjoy these posts 🙂 I’m loving the mirrors outside – what a great idea. And the letter box – I’ve been wanting to do this for ages.

::: We know you love them Jen … Why do you think we post on them!?!?!? 🙂 🙂

  4. Jode says:

Awww….those lovely pics make me miss working with babies and toddlers…i still got loads of ideas and inspiration to use at home with my twin toddlers though so thanks for sharing!

::: That’s great to hear Jode … Learning environments at home are just as important as anywhere else! 🙂 🙂

  5. Greg (Bear) says:

You are so lucky to visit so many amazing services. These snippets are excellent examples of how we shouldn’t limit our environments because of children’s ages. Perhaps I’ll be able share something worthwhile like this when our yards gets their makeover – starting in Feb now at this stage.

::: We really have loved visiting so many amazing places this year ‘Bear‘ … and of course we’d love the opportunity to head up into N.S.W. next year and add your service to the list too!!!

  6. Erin says:

I love this – and it looks like a smallish room, exactly like so many of us in childcare have to work within. We are beginning to plan for next year – so many ideas running through my head! I’ll be forwarding this post to my room co-teachers, it’s exactly what I’ve been dreaming in my head.

::: It is a small room Erin. This childcare center is in an old home in the inner suburbs of Melbourne. Over the holiday period, while we take a short break, we will be taking you on a trip down memory lane revisitng all of the places on our education directory in order to spread some inspiration for the new year ahead. We hope you’ll enjoy that too! 🙂 🙂

  9. Angela says:

Great spaces! There is never enough pics of infant and toddler spaces. As a provider that specializes in preschool age and under (mostly infants and toddlers), I just love seeing new ideas! Thanks so much for sharing!

::: So glad we can inspire you Angela. We have a wonderful PLEASE HELP! forum on our IIFPBL Facebook page which includes a section on Babies & Toddlers, you might like to check out too. 🙂 🙂

Love your use of mirrors ,was just wondering if they are safety mirror & if so where do you get them …we have had a couple of broken ones inside so are a bit wary of using ordinary mirrors outside ……

  11. admin says:

They weren’t safety mirrors Di … Just mirrors.
