::: super capes
During our teaching years together and as we visit other kindergartens, we are noticing that children still love, love, love wearing capes!
They can be bought ones …
homemade …
or a piece of material tied under their chins. The children don’t seem to care.
We have found that generic ones are the best as the children can just imagine who they want to be without being limited by such designs as Spiderman or Batman.
They wear them on the trampoline …
drawing …
all around the yard …
even playing in the sandpit.
Such a simple, cheap …
and irresistible play accessory!

I agree – I think cape-wearing is a world-wide phenomenon that is a key part of creative, imaginative and fantasy play. In fact, materials of all sorts, sizes and varieties I find handy for indoor and outdoor work. Forget buying official dressing up clothes, have materials and accessories instead.
::: Right again Juliet! ‘Loose Parts’ aren’t just about logs and rocks in the playground, it’s about including open ended props all over the place.

Good to know it’s not just restricted to my class – we had a pile of baby blankets that have been transformed into capes by the boys!
::: We love hearing that children are the same all over the world Kierna!

And who doesn’t love a good cape? This reminds me that I think I am running low on capes, but the children don’t seem to mind. They fashion them from baby blankets and musical scarves in our class!
::: It would appear the old baby blankets make the best capes Ayn!

My boys love their capes. I have made Superman and Batman designs on one side of them (because that is what they requested at the time) but I made them reversible and plain on the back so they can “transform” into anything they want to be. This may be another superhero or their own invented hero (Junior is currently “star boy”) or a king or prince or just about anything he wants to be. So lovely to see them both enjoying dress ups.
::: We love that they can transform with the flick of their capes Aussie Mum!

This is lovely…I am teaching letter Ss this cycle…I think they will be so interested to wear their Super capes..
Thanks for sharing:)
::: You’re welcome Jai.
