::: jell’s park preschool
We have started to visit schools and kindergartens whose educational beliefs support our play based learning philosophy. Our aim is to profile and promote them, through our new Education Directory page where people can access their information directly.
We were lucky enough recently to hold a workshop at Jell’s Park Preschool, which is situated on the western side of Jell’s Park, just off Ferntree Gully Road.
It gave us the perfect opportunity to have a wander around …
and take some photos to share with you.
The children at Jell’s Park enjoy a spacious yard comprising plenty of natural materials such as…
bark …
flowers,
rocks …
trees …
shrubs,
mini gardens in tubs and of course …
heaps of sand.
We especially loved their dry creek bed. Bunnings, a large hardware store here in Australia, has a very strong community committment as evidenced here – they donated all the rocks, plants etc…
Jell’s Park Preschool is a friendly and exciting place to explore, imagine, play and learn.
All under the watchful eye of their extremely friendly and very endearing kinder pet – Terence the Turtle.

This looks like an engaging and nurturing space for curious minds and hands. Delightful.
::: You’re right Lynette, it’s lovely!

So nice that we can peek into other people’s centres – thanks for this – it is great to see behind the fence.
::: It certainly is Louise and teachers just don’t get the opportunity to do this so we have decided to do it for you … our aim is to add a new early childhood setting each week!

It all looks so beautiful, peaceful and inspiring. Sigh!
Does any one else have trouble with vandalism? What ever we try to do to change, add to or make our garden more exciting is ripped up, graffitied on or has glass smashed on it – and rocks would definitely end up through a window!!!
::: Lisa that is awful!
Personally we NEVER had any trouble with vandals but sadly we’re sure it does go on!

aha – this is what I have been waiting for! I love the mini gardens in the tubs.
::: They looked like little water tank Jenny … very cool indeed!

What an irresistible place! Fantastic.
::: You’re right Juliet, it’s lovely.

what a fantastic place for the children to grow, learn and PLAY, we are very lucky to have such a wonderful Preschool here at Jells Park! I am so proud to be the Teacher and Director! Thankyou for your wonderful post about us! The community around Wheelers Hill has lots to do with our wonderful Preschool grounds, the fund raising and extra help at the working bees certainly makes it the place that it is!!
::: Lauren THANK YOU for allowing us to visit and share details of your lovely preschool. We are very proud of the high quality early childhood education taking place here in Victoria. You are to be congratulated in the way that you have created such a sharing, caring community for your preschoolers … Keep up the great work!

I love the dry creek bed too ! Rocks – what a great idea!
And imagine, if hiding amongst those rocks, were the children’s own pet rocks. No one would throw a pet rock!
::: Well it just so happens Jillian that the children HAD been making pet rocks when we visited. They are the beautiful coloured rocks you see in the post!
