::: tick tock

We found a large bunch of old alarm clocks in the storeroom …

and thought the children might enjoy getting out with the screw drivers and pulling them apart.

We set them up in the bush box so we could keep all the bits together.

Wow they did a great job!

There is so much for the children to discover …

when using real tools …

and so great for their fine motor skills!

If you want something pulled to pieces …

just give free range to a five year old!

As clocks seem to be mainly digital these days, many of the children hadn’t seen an old fashioned alarm clock before and were fascinated at the inside workings.

They particularly loved the discovery of the alarm – what noisy fun!

Now the clocks have been taken apart …

humm…maybe a clocka-doodle-doo! or a dial-orama …don’t forget to s’tick’ it together and ‘watch’what those children are up to (oh dear it must have been a long day!)
::: That’s so cool Findleysmaid and to think all we could come up with for a title was “tick tock”!

That is brilliant guys! I have a bunch of children who would relish this activity. I might have to put a call out to family and friends for some old clocks.
::: If you think that is brilliant Karen wait until you see what the children have done with all the dismantled pieces!

What a great idea!! Where did you get all the clocks?
::: They were in a box in the store room and considering the amount of time we girls have worked here all we know is they’ve been here longer than us … so who knows Karon?!

What a cool idea! I’ll be scouring our second hand shops for clocks from now on
::: Better still Caz ask family and friends … You’d be surprised what people stash away in their cupboards!

I absolutely love this– what fun!
::: The children had an absolute blast creating them Jane!

Now where can I get my hands on a bunch of old clocks? Something else to look for on my trips to Vinnies.
I was thinking of doing this next week with old computer keyboards – they seem to be breeding in our storeroom.
::: Sounds totally irresistible to us Jenny … tick, tick, tick … Now that’s OUR brains ticking over with YOUR idea!

Just wondering what other everyday equipment can we give to children to dismantle?
::: Jackie if you take a look at this post you might get some ideas
