::: ribbon sticks

We have been talking a lot about ballet performances this past week, as we are taking the children on an excursions to see a local ballet school perform “Peter and the Wolf” – something we have done for several years now.

As our children LOVE to pop in C.D’s to dance along with throughout the session, this week we introduced them to the music and story of “Peter and the Wolf”. As we’ve done in the past we showed the children how to create ribbon sticks to dance along to the beautiful music with.

We had a box of dowel in the storeroom and bags of ribbon which were perfect for the job.

The children used masking tape or sticky tape to attach the ribbons to the sticks …

cut the ribbon to the desired lengths …

and away they danced!

Fun, fun, fun!

  1. We have something similar which we use when we read and act out ‘We’re Going On a Bear Hunt’, with green ribbons for the swishing grass, blue for the water and so on. The children love them. Hope you all enjoy your visit to the ballet.

    ::: We’ve made torches before Cathy … to find our way through the dark cave, but we love your ribbon idea! As for the ballet, it will be a real highlight for the children we’re sure. :) :)

    Oh to see “Peter and The Wolf” at the top of your post! I spent about 3 hours yesterday trauling our local bookfest to find a “Peter And The Wolf” Golden book. My Dad remembers reading it to my older brother (now 40) and I thought it would make a thoughtful birthday gift for him next month, especially now as he can read it to his Grand Children. The closest I came was a Disney version, still in amazement I found it!!

    When and where is the ballet on? I’d consider taking my son.

    ::: Brooke, it is a terrific ballet for children performed by a local ballet school around September each year – “Utassy Ballet School” is in Nunawading, telephone 9755-1199. We’ve been taking our children for years and they LOVE it! :) :)
