::: “Hi my name is Joe”

Here’s a wonderful action chant we like to do with our children when they need to burn off a little energy. It’s called “Hi, my name is Joe“. It’s great for getting the children up and moving. It’s loads of fun and a good gross motor exercise!

We chant it like this -

Hi, my name is Joe and I work in a button factory. One day my boss came up to me and said “Are you busy Joe?” and I said “No” …

Well push this button with your hand!”

Using one hand (to push an imaginary button up and down or in and out) the song repeats …

Hi, my name is Joe and I work in a button factory. One day my boss came up to me and said “Are you busy Joe?” and I said “No” …

… “Well push this button with your other hand!”

Using two hands the song repeats …

… “Well push this button with your foot!”

Using two hands and one foot the song repeats …

    I’ve been using your version of “A Sailor Went To Sea” this summer. It’s a perfect fit for our school and the kids love it! It looks like I have another terrific full-body song to introduce in the new school year.

    I also wanted to make sure you take a look at my post for tomorrow. We combined one of your science experiments with something else and wound up with a rather explosive experience! =)

    ::: We love that you’re singing our songs Tom and you’re right about them being full-body! As for tomorrow … we’ll definitely be watching :) :)

    My daughter chants this one around the house at home Donna. My favourite part is the tone of voice you guys use! Every time she starts chanting a smile spreads across her face. Certainly one of her favourites!

    ::: That is so cute Ambershe certainly does join in with MUCH enthusiasm EVERY time! :) :)

    That is so cool that you know this rhyme – I have been using it for years and it is one of my favorites!!

    ::: An oldie but a goodie Deborah! :) :)

    I love love love this song. It always gets a laugh and enthusiastic participation, especially when we’re all singing with our tongues out! I have to admit, I’ve always done it sitting down because that’s how I learnt it. I can’t believe I never thought to do it standing up! That’s why I love this blog (with Tom’s and Debbie’s it makes up the big three for me!). I get so much inspiration and I’m challenged to think of things in different ways!

    ::: Placing us in the company of Tom and Deborah is a huge compliment … thanks Tracy! The beauty of sharing around the blogosphere is we are all able to teach each other new things! AND we’ve not thought of doing the song sitting down, so thank you for your inspiration too! :) :)

    Like the button idea, Ive only heard it as “I work in a window factory” and we clean the windows with arms legs and feet.

    ::: We know a bunch of children who would love that version too … thanks for sharing Shiona! :) :)

    We love this chant too – we learnt it from a primary school concert years ago – a real classic forall ages! (I hadn’t heard of the window factory either, Shiona, so thanks for that.)

    ::: It’s a ripper isn’t it Louise?! :) :)
