::: crazy egg carton fun

We seemed to have collected an awful lot of egg cartons lately! Some we used to make our mini beasts but we still seem to have bags full of them in our storeroom.

Last week we popped a big pile for our young pre-kinder friends to have a play with.

We added some glue sticks and scrap booking paper …

along with lots of different coloured sticky dots …

and our pre-kinder children’s favourites … mini patty pans!

Our young friends had the best fun creating together!

And what dexterous little creations they made too.

What a terrific fine motor exercise this proved to be with such great focus shown by our three and four year olds!

    I love using egg cartons! I have been very unlucky though over the past 3 years to have children who are anaphylactic to egg, meaning no egg cartons for our Kinder :-( There is something about the egg cartons that inspires so much interesting work and also provides a great opportunity for the children to explore counting concepts such as one to one correspondance.

    ::: Yes Kate. It seems we need to be carful with so many things these days due to allergies! :) :)

    One of my favorite activities – put out an assortment of stuff and let the kids go. I’m always amazed at their creations. These are great.

    ::: Very cool aren’t they Scott! :) :)

    Lots of concentration and patterning happening too!

    ::: We know Louise, such great focus for children so young! :) :)

    Oohhh I really miss egg carton crafts. The last couple of years I have had children with egg allergies so have not used egg cartons!!!

    ::: Shauna we were just commenting to Kate about the care you need to take with children and allergies! :) :)

    Forgive my ignorance here, but if there is no visual contamination of the egg cartons, can they still be used in nursery with a child who has an egg allergy?

    ::: Juliet contamination is possible in all boxes donated to kindergarten. Many boxes claim … “could contain traces of nuts” … “could contain traces of egg”. There is always the chance of contamination as there is always the chance of a child being allergic to something from which they’ve not yet been exposed. What is the right answer?

    This is really interesting. We have schools & pre-schools who won’t use egg boxes and toilet tubes in the interests of H&S. They worry about germs. The issue of allergy to eggs I’ve not come across as a reason not to use the boxes they come in.

    ::: By the look of our Facebook page Juliet people ‘ban’ all sorts of things for many different reasons. :) :) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Croydon-Australia/Irresistible-Ideas-For-Play-Based-Learning/121305887884646?ref=ts
