::: the tickly feather game

Anyone living in Melbourne at the moment will agree with us that we have been experiencing a heap of rain – wonderful, but a bit of a novelty for us here in our drought stricken land. Anyway, that results in a lot more time indoors than we would usually have which means we have more opportunity to do some great large group games.

Louise from Ouyen kindergarten inspired us here with this feather game. We stuck some feathers onto a stick, gave each child a carpet square and had them all scrunch up into a ball on the blue semicircle mat … no peeking!

One child tickled another with the feathers, then handed the feathered stick over to them before sitting down quietly on our green semicircle mat away from the group a little.

The tickled child then has a turn, and so on until all children have been tickled.

It was lovely to see the children’s faces when they joined the tickled group.

It was like a bit of a conspiracy seeing who the last child would be.

What a lovely relaxing game to play on a cold winter’s day. Thanks Louise for the idea.

    What a fun idea, although I have to say that rain really ought not keep you indoors. This from a person who lives in a place that is definitely NOT drought stricken! =)

    ::: We do take our children out in the rain Tom but when it buckets down like it has this winter and with the high wind chill factor we’ve been experiencing somedays it’s just too unpleasant we’re afraid. Luckily inside can be fun too! :) :)

    Oh what a terrific game to play. I have never heard of this. I am going to teach this to my teachers – their kids will love it!

    ::: Well you can thank Louise from Ouyen Kindergarten for this one Deborah! :) :)

    yep soooo much rain in Melbourne and we have played the “who’s shoe?” game so many times it is good to get another idea for inside group fun :)

    ::: Of course Cheree “who’s shoe”! We haven’t played that game this year yet … oh well I reckon there will be plenty of opportunity to whip those shoes off yet … rain or no rain!

    Nice to see your photos of the game! :)

    ::: It was fun Louise … thanks for sharing it! :) :)

    I think it’s a great game! Although maybe the last child to be tickled may feel a bit left out?

    ::: Yes that could certainly happen Andrea so our last child was congratulated (and the children spontaneously clapped him) for keeping still and quiet for the longest time so he felt quite special being the last. He will also be invited to go first with the feather the next time we play. :) :)
