::: sewing trays and more …

As we were planning to do a group sewing project, we thought we would give the children a gentle introduction to sewing …

by using those polystyrene trays that meat comes on from the butcher or supermarket along with plastic needles and wool.

We also supplied lots of glittery stuff and other bits and pieces …

for them to decorate the trays with.

It is a hard concept to understand the whole …

threading the needle …

pushing it in and out …

pull the thread the whole way through thing.

After having a good go at that …

and producing some fabulous creations …

we swapped everything over to a material base.

This time we used sharper metal needles and finer cotton thread …

still with lots of glitter and other fun things.

Another irresistible group project!

Donna and Sherry, one of the (many) things I’ve gotten from you is the value of group projects – another extension of a favourite activity – thanks! :)

They look sew good (sorry, couldn’t help myself). I love the idea of a group sewing project – group projects are a beautiful way for children to leave their mark on the preschool environment, and to experience community.

::: You are ‘sew’ right Jenny and we reckon we’ve got the whole group projects success thing ‘stitch’ up around here! bong … bong! :) :)

Oooh, I love the sewing project. It takes sewing cards to the next level and we are ready for it! I am so glad you found my blog (How the Sun Rose) so I could find your site. I’m sure you will be a great resource and inspiration for play learning with my 2 sons. Thanks for all the work you put into the site :)

::: You too have some lovely ideas Lynn … and welcome on board! :) :)
