::: painted sticks
While collecting bits and pieces for our nature sculptures, we came across heaps of great sticks and as you may be aware, sticks are a passion of Donna’s, so they came to kinder too.

Some were straight, some curvy, some reared up so they looked a bit snake-like to us.

Of course we didn’t care how the children interpreted them but funnily enough many agreed with us.

We put them on a table with a pile of brightly coloured paints and thin brushes …

and let the children go for it.

We saw some really interesting patterns …

and lots and lots of colour.

When the children arrived at kinder the next day many of them were keen to transform the beautifully coloured sticks …

into snakes and other creatures so it was decided that permanent black felt pens would be the best way to add small details and they sure came up with some great ideas.

It was agreed that the sticks would look really great hanging from one of our gum branches we have hanging up around the room.

Seeing the sticks hanging down reminded us of wind chimes but as Jackson pointed out “wind chimes need to make a sound and we would have to add something metal to them to be wind chimes”.
Hmmm … you’re right Jackson! Sounds like another group project idea coming up!

Children just seem to love sticks. If there’s one to be found – they do. Like the way you let them express their creative side. The painted sticks look great. Cannot wait to see those wind chimes.
::: You’re right countryfun children and sticks go ‘hand-in-hand’ … and as for those wind chimes they’re going to look and sound beautiful … still a work in progress though!

hmm- we’ve painted WITH sticks…maybe we should try painting ON sticks! I’m sure the kids would love it just as much!
::: Hmmmm … and maybe Pam, we will try painting with sticks!

I love this idea! I love all of your ideas. I’ve already bookmarked several for the first projects of the year!
Thanks for helping inspire ideas!
::: Well thank you Morgan … we’re very happy to be able to help!

So simple, so much learning… looking forward to seeing the next exciting episode…:)
::: Stay tuned Louise … it’s a work in progress!

This is a super idea. One I’d definitely love to try with my girlies.
::: Our children certainly loved it Amanda!

Ha ha ha! Sticks do make perfect guns and swards the world over, don’t they?
And the wind chime suggestion is great. You guys are really on a roll!
::: Tricked you Tom … It’s the children’s ideas which are on a roll, we’re just coming along for the ride!

just saw this post and thought you might like a book called ‘not a stick’ by Antoinette Portis. It’s about all the things a stick can be. xx
::: We’ve been recommended this book before Jacquie but don’t have a copy of it. Now that you are also recommending it we really should get our act into gear and find ourselves a copy!
