::: ‘inside sounds’ a sensory listening game
If you live in Melbourne you know that it has been pretty wet lately and we have been finding ourselves inside for much longer than normal.

When the noise is starting to get a bit unbearable, you know it is time to bring the group together for a bit of quiet activity, and what better than a sensory listening game?

We have a box of photos on card of sounds we might hear inside which we must have had for years as they are accompanied by a tape rather than a CD. The photos match sounds which are on the tape.

We gave out the cards, talked about what was on each one, then played the tape. No one spoke a word!

When they heard their sound, they carefully came into the middle of the circle and placed their card into the box.

They were pretty good at not telling other children when their sound came up, so we were impressed.

We have a similar set of cards and tape for outside sounds, so we’ll keep that one up our sleeves for the next rainy day!

What a good find…I still use a lot of tapes as well!
Looks like the kids are being very patient and following directions so well! I have a CD of animal sounds- some of my children LOVE to listen and call out what animal sound they hear
(by the way- thanks for the info. on the blocks- I plan on checking into them!)
::: Pam your welcome on the “Block Play” info … they are pretty spectacular aren’t they!

I have made my own listening game using a small tape recorder and recording sounds around my house. I never thought of adding cards – I will have to take some photos too!
I have a sound BINGO that I got many years ago. I googled everyday sounds bingo and found this.

This is a very cool game! My only question: you still own a cassette player? =)
::: Yep! … You should have been there Tom to see Sherry trying to figure out which way to put the tape in … very amusing indeed!
