::: marble run fun

We have found with the cold, wet weather that the children are not interested in the water wall – we don’t blame them!

We seem to have marbles on our minds at the moment with different activities we have been doing and thought that perhaps we could utilise the water wall in a different way.

It needed a bit of snazzing up as it was looking a bit neglected, so with the children’s help we added a few more bottles and some hoses as well.

Talk about giving the old girl new life!

The children love it and are having lots of fun manipulating the different components …

to make a variety of paths for their marbles.

The beauty of the wall is that come summer the bottles and hoses will be suitable for both marbles and water play!

As you can imagine the children are having a ball playing with their new look wall.

A mar-ball that is!

    super cool. I love those hoses! I got to go the the hardware store to find some!

    ::: V.Kerr the hoses we used were off old vacuum cleaners! :) :)

    What a great idea – to transform a “neglected” area into something that is fun and exciting. I don’t think I would have thought of modifying the wall from water to marble use. What fun!

    This is the BEST preschool project idea that I have come across on the internet to date! :) )))) We are soooooo going to embark upon this awesome learning journey mixed with FUN! Thanks for sharing!

    Ho! Ho! Ho!

    Remember to have sequins, glitter and sparkly balls ready during the festive season. In fact I reckon you should beat the shops at getting ready for Christmas and start now!

    Other interesting experiments might include gloop (and use water to wash it out), sand, and lentils.

    However, please do not put reindeer down the wall. They don’t like that sort of treatment.

    Best wishes
    Juliet

    ::: Thanks for the ideas Juliet … and I was saying to Sherry just this morning … I said “NO Sherry, you can NOT put that reindeer down the wall”! … now who’d have known you would come up with that exact warning?! Maybe she’ll listen to you … hee hee hee! :) :)

    Great re-purpose! I’m impressed. Our waterwalls are moveable and I recently moved them into a back hallway, assuming that when I bring them out in a few weeks, they’ll be new again, but they would definitely work with marbles. =)

    Once again, a fantastic idea…:)

  9. I love this wall, and the ideas for using lots of other things in addition to the marbles. (And just got a bargain bucket of marbles from our local charity shop). I’ve added a link to you from my Facebook page – hope that’s OK with you.

    ::: Thank’s Cathy … add away! :) :)

    This has given me a fab idea! I have a plain brick wall at the end of my garden so I’m going to buy a wooden trellis then hoses etc can be attached to it. Well done who ever came up with such a great idea!!

    Great idea :-) )

  14. That looks so wonderful! I’m sure kids love to drop a marble and have it disappear only to reappear somewhere else! So much can be done with this activity. I really like it!

    I am hoping to make our own marble run soon, out of a cereal box. Sure, not as awesomely cool as your one, but we have to start somewhere!

    They sure look like they are having a wonderful time :)
