::: make it irresistible – create miniature houses

Here’s a project you might like to do in the holidays.

P1230604

These miniature wooden houses are made from scraps of pine timber which we picked up from Reverse Art in Ringwood.

P9070045

We painted them with craft paint, each side a different colour, and using a small brush dabbed roof tiles on the sloped top.  We painted a variety of shapes for the windows and doors with the black detail being added later with permanent markers.

The children enjoy these little houses everywhere at kinder …

in all kinds of imaginative play spaces  …

P1130101

… where ever their imaginations take them.

P1170456

We also use them to jazz up other areas around the room.

P1220314

They make terrific little props!

Ask builder parents for ‘dressed pine timber’ off cuts then sand the rough edges to avoid splinters!

I love them – so many places to use them too. I’ll definately be putting this on my ‘to do list’ for this year.

  2. Hi,
I’ve just found your site via Jenny’s – so many brilliant ideas here! Well done in creating such a fantastic blog, thanks for sharing!

I love this idea so much! What a great tool for imagination. I also noticed the little timber cut off branches with what look like thin flat timber platforms and steps on them. What are they? Did you make it? It looks really interesting. It is in the photo of the stacked houses with Yoshi on top.

::: Catherine that’s our tree house you can see how we made it through this link! :) :) http://www.playbasedlearning.com.au/2010/05/make-it-irresistible-with-a-tree-house/

    Hi girls,
i love these and are about to make a set for the classroom. Did you varnish/coat them in anything to protect the paint work?
    Many thanks

::: Brenda, we did varnish ours to protect them from the rain but when the children later made their own we simply used our regular paint and no varnish was applied. Of course that means the paint eventually washes off outside BUT then they simply get to paint them again! :) :)
